Using EveryNearby

What is EveryNearby?

EveryNearby is a free directory of local businesses in India: more than 550,000 listings in more than 300 cities. What makes it different is that every listing says whether its details have been checked, and on what date.

Is it free?

Yes. Searching, calling a business, writing a review, and claiming or adding your own business are all free. Nothing on the site is for sale: no badge and no position in a list can be bought.

What does "Checked" with a date mean?

On that date we visited the business’s own website and found that it was live, was still the business’s own site and not a parked or for-sale page, and named the business. It does not mean we visited the premises or that we recommend the business. How we check listings explains the test in full.

What does "Not yet checked" mean?

The details came from open data and we have not confirmed them ourselves yet. They may well be right, but it is worth calling before you travel.

Where does the information come from?

Listings that no owner has claimed start from open place data published by the Overture Maps Foundation. Owners then correct and add to their own listings. The data sources page gives the credits.

How are the lists ordered?

The most recently checked businesses come first. If you choose “Near me”, the nearest come first; if you choose “Top rated”, the highest rated come first. Nobody pays for a position.

Do you use my location?

Only when you press “Near me” or “Use my location”. It is used for that one list, to order that list or to find the nearest city we cover, and it is not stored. The Privacy Policy has the detail.

Do I need an account?

Not to search, call a business or get directions. You need one to write a review or to manage a business. You sign in with a code sent to your email address or mobile number, so there is no password to remember.

How do reviews work?

Anyone signed in can review a business. Reviews appear automatically within about 15 minutes, without a person reading them first, and the owner may post one reply, which appears the same way. The Review Policy says what is and is not allowed.

A listing is wrong, or the business has closed. What do I do?

Every business page has a “Report this listing” form. Tell us what is wrong and we will look at it. A business reported as closed is removed once that is confirmed.

For business owners

How do I claim my business?

Open your business’s page and choose to claim it. We check that you run the business in one of these ways:

  • you sign in with the mobile number shown on the listing;
  • we send a code to an email address on your business’s own website;
  • you send us proof, which a person reviews. A simple proof is to put our small badge on your website, where we can see it.

Claiming is free.

My business is not listed. Can I add it?

Yes, at Add your business. First search for it, in case it is already there. A new listing goes public automatically within about 15 minutes, without a person looking at it first.

What can I change on my listing?

Opening hours, description, photos (up to 8), services, payment methods, branches and more, and you can reply to reviews. Changes to the name, phone number, address, website and categories show automatically within about 15 minutes.

What is the "GST registered" badge?

If you give us your GST number, a person checks it against the government’s GST records. If it matches your business, the listing shows “GST registered”. The number itself is never shown, and the badge cannot be bought.

Someone else has claimed my business. What can I do?

Open the claim page for the listing and tell us it is yours, with one proof. We give the current manager 7 days to answer, then a person decides, and both of you are emailed the result. The Listing and Content Policy sets out the steps.

What is the badge for my website?

A small “Listed on EveryNearby” picture, with the date we last checked your listing, that links to your listing. It is optional and you will find it on your account page. Your listing is treated the same whether you use it or not.

Can my business be removed?

Yes. Use “Report this listing” on the business page, or write to info@everynearby.com from an address that shows you run the business. A business that has been removed is not added again.

What do you do with my details?

We use them to run your account and your listing. Your city and interests are never passed to businesses or advertisers, and we do not ask for PAN, Aadhaar or bank details. The Privacy Policy lists everything we keep.
